Youth and Women Empowerment

  1. Organize Trainings and Workshops: SAFU-Uganda organizes regular, practical trainings that equip unemployed youth and women with entrepreneurial and agribusiness skills. Topics include Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) management, financial literacy, business planning, value addition for agricultural products like making wine or flour, and crafts making. These workshops, delivered at sub-county level, build confidence and create a pathway from subsistence to profitable household enterprises, directly promoting poverty alleviation.
  2. Training Women and Youth in Sustainable Farming: We provide specialized training in sustainable, climate-smart farming as a business. Youth and women learn to establish profitable enterprises in organic vegetable production, poultry, beekeeping, and nursery management for income generation. By linking them to tools, improved seeds, and markets, this activity ensures good production, household income, and food security, alleviating hunger while conserving the environment.
  3. Promote Inclusive Participation: SAFU-Uganda champions gender equality by ensuring youth and women have a voice in agricultural decision-making, community leadership, and household economic decisions. We facilitate their inclusion in farmer groups, cooperative leadership, and local council planning meetings. By training them in leadership, negotiation, and rights, we dismantle cultural barriers that limit their participation, fostering an empowered new generation of self-reliant women and youth who actively drive sustainable development in Kigezi.
